First I love your idea, so clever ! The plastic thingy is a doily circa late 50s/early 60's, usually fabric but hey it was the era of plastic … I had forgotten about these ! I'm circa 1950s :) Elaine in TN

I see Elaine identified the plastic doily. LOL I remember them well. We had plastic lacey placemats too. Your DIY project turned out very nicely! Well done.

Wow! That is incredible crative and inventive, I never would guess that is a clothh diaper. The result of this project looks phenominal!

  9. Tess says:

Wow, this bag turned out awesome. I won the same items, almost, and must find time to make something with it. I'v been seeing what others make and am loving the inspiration. I have a jean jacket that is begging to be decorated. I can't believe this cute little bag used to be a diaper, no one would guess if you didn't tell them. I love the handle you made.

That stencil worked perfectly! Thanks so much for participating in the exchange!

  11. Karla says:

The little purse is adorable! Like others, I would never have guessed that the purse was made from a diaper.

I was going to tell you what "it" was in its former life, but I see that Elaine and Marilou beat me to it. My mother had a few of these, but I mostly remember them from my grandmothers' homes. The idea was that they didn't have to be washed like real doilies, but they were dust magnets! No matter how free of dust everything else was, these always collected dust. Some might say, well, at least they don't have to be ironed; but I always enjoyed ironing, even as a child, and I still do. It was a quiet task where I could just think and daydream and imagine.

Love the doily stencil! This project turned out perfectly. :-)
